Spaceport Systems International is looking to a bright future with its second launch from its commercial spaceport at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.

"With this launch from the nation's first commercial launch facility, SSI continues to provide the best value for both the commercial and government marketplace," said Earl Severo, CEO, Spaceport Systems International. "Our Spaceport provides the most important essentials in one package: infrastructure, expertise, location and affordability."

The payload for Orbital's Minotaur hybrid launcher was the first of the MightySat II series. MightySat II.1's primary objective is to provide an affordable space-based platform for demonstration of advanced space system technology. Demonstration of emerging technology will expedite transition of advanced capabilities from the lab bench to opera0tional Air Force space programs.

SSI provided both Launch and Range Services for this Mission. ITT Industries, Systems Division, as the operator of the Western Range, provided timely and critical support throughout pre launch operations, liftoff, and satellite orbit insertion.

Spaceport Systems International is a limited partnership between ITT Industries, Inc. and the California Commercial Spaceport, Inc. SSI's facilities combine the latest technology with highly competitive, cost-effective systems to provide payload processing, ranges services and launch services to both government and commercial customers. The first Minotaur Mission was successfully launched from SSI's launch facility on January 26, 2000.
