Raytheon Systems has announced further orders worth some $13.5 million for its GAS-1 jam-resistant Global Positioning System (GPS)-antenna technology from the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy. The orders include equipment for both aircraft and shipboard applications.
Jeremy Cook, Business Development Executive for the RSL team said, "Production deliveries of the GAS-1 system have been in full swing since 1998 so it is especially pleasing to see the U.S. government place their largest ever annual production quantity eight years into the programme.
Normally, at this point one might expect quantities to be on the decline, but GAS-1 continues to go from strength to strength. This is at least in part the result of increasing interest from international customers who have chosen to take advantage of the U.S. Foreign Military Sales programme.
Cook went further and added, "There are still two additional annual production options open on this current contract, and indications are that next year's order will be a healthy size as well. Now that we are about to introduce the successor to the GAS-1, the all digital "Navshield", we will see a transition to the new system over the next 12 months. However I would still hope we can reach the milestone of delivering the 4000th GAS-1 unit in the not too distant future."
