Bonn, Germany (SPX) Nov 10, 2009 - The Berlin Wall fell 20 years ago. From 1961 to 1989, this concrete wall, many miles in length, divided not only a city but also the whole of Germany. A shattered rock formation on Mars is a reminder of the event that changed the world on 9 November 1989.

Pasadena CA (SPX) Nov 10, 2009 - Spirit is still suffering from the inability to access the on-board, non-volatile (flash) memory file system. However, the operations team has developed a strategy to allow science activities to continue.

Pasadena CA (SPX) Nov 10, 2009 - Opportunity continues to make good progress driving. The rover continued to drive south on sols 2050, 2051, 2054, 2055 and 2056, (Oct. 30, 31, Nov. 3, 4 and 5, 2009) totaling over 260 meters (853 feet).

Huntsville AL (SPX) Nov 09, 2009 - Once upon a time - roughly four billion years ago - Mars was warm and wet, much like Earth. Liquid water flowed on the Martian surface in long rivers that emptied into shallow seas. A thick atmosphere blanketed the planet and kept it warm. Living microbes might have even arisen, some scientists believe, starting Mars down the path toward becoming a second life-filled planet next door to our own.

Pasadena CA (SPX) Nov 09, 2009 - Winter images of NASA's Phoenix Lander showing the lander shrouded in dry-ice frost on Mars have been captured with the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment, or HiRISE camera, aboard NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

College Station TX (SPX) Nov 05, 2009 - Is there such a thing as weather on Mars? There are some doubts, considering the planet's atmosphere is only 1 percent as dense as that of the Earth. Mars, however, definitely has clouds, drastically low temperatures and out-of-this-world dust storms, and Istvan Szunyogh, a Texas A and M professor of atmospheric sciences, has been awarded a NASA grant to analyze and forecast Martian weather.

Pasadena CA (SPX) Nov 04, 2009 - Opportunity has been making good progress driving. After completing a survey of meteorites recently, Opportunity has turned south around the point of a large ripple field. Eventually, the rover will resume heading east towards Endeavour crater.

Huntsville AL (SPX) Nov 02, 2009 - If you found your grandmother's diary, tattered and dust covered, up in the attic, would you read it? Of course you would. Granny was a pistol! Brush off the dust, open up the little book, and foray into her lively and interesting past.

Pasadena CA (SPX) Oct 29, 2009 - This image from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter shows channels to the southeast of Hale crater on southern Mars. Taken by the orbiter's High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera, this view covers an area about 3 kilometers (2 miles) wide.

Gottingen, Germany (SPX) Oct 28, 2009 - Is the Earth the only place in our Solar System on which living organisms exist? Is there, for example, life on Mars? The goal of the European space mission ExoMars is to resolve this question. To this end, the atmosphere on Mars is being simulated at the German Aerospace Center in Gottingen.

Pasadena CA (SPX) Oct 27, 2009 - Spirit has recovered from X-band fault and is using her steerable high-gain antenna (HGA) normally. The clearing of the X-band fault was to occur on Sol 2056 (Oct. 15, 2009), but a Deep Space Network (DSN) station outage at the last minute prevented the commands from reaching the rover.
