EADS SPACE Services has purchased a 49% stake in London Satellite Exchange. The acquisition will strengthen EADS SPACE Services' one-stop-shop strategy of providing satellite capacity and services, including non-military capacity, to Government customers.

EADS SPACE Services has been working jointly since two years with London Satellite Exchange, whose operational base is in Toulouse, notably on the ASTEL S contract for the French MOD. London Satellite Exchange has developed its renowned position as the multi-lateral source for satellite capacity, supplying customers with direct or second hand satellite capacity on a just-in-time basis.

This so called "spot" market has attracted proponents from all sectors but in recent years a peak demand has developed from the Government sector. London Satellite Exchange's neutral approach to procurement enables it to present customers with all possible technical options, effectively empowering the customer to minimise risk and cost.

This acquisition fits directly into EADS SPACE Services' strategy of enabling their customers to procure the most appropriate capacity for their critical applications, on a flexible and secure basis.

This move is a logical next-step in the evolution of London Satellite Exchange and its initiative to balance Media and Enterprise business with contrasting Government contracts. Future demand is expected to grow dramatically as the market expands with developments of UAVs and aircraft communications.

EADS SPACE Services will be a minority shareholder of London Satellite Exchange, enabling the Company to continue to operate as a standalone entity.
