Curiosity Rover Grows By Leaps And Bounds Pasadena CA (JPL) Jul 26, 2010 Talk about a growth-spurt. In one week, Curiosity grew by approximately 1 meter (3.5 feet) when spacecraft technicians and engineers attached the rover's neck and head (called the Remote Sensing Mast) to its body. At around 2 meters (about 7 feet) tall, the next rover to Mars now stands head and shoulders above the rest. Mounted on Curiosity's mast are two navigation cameras (Navcams), two mast cameras (Mastcam), and the laser-carrying chemistry camera (ChemCam). While it now has a good head ... read more |

Opportunity Keeps On Driving To Endeavour Crater Pasadena CA (JPL) Jul 05, 2010 Opportunity continues to make good progress toward Endeavour crater as solar energy levels improve. On Sol 2281 (June 24, 2010), the rover completed over 70 meters (230 feet), driving east/southeast. On Sol 2283 (June 26, 2010), the rover headed 57 meters (187 feet) to the northeast to avoid some large ripples. The rover drove again on Sol 2286 (June 29, 2010), covering over 70 ... more Still Listening For Spirit Pasadena CA (JPL) Jul 05, 2010 Spirit remains silent at her location called "Troy" on the west side of Home Plate. No communication has been received from the rover since Sol 2210 (March 22, 2010). As stated previously, it is likely that Spirit has experienced a low-power fault and has turned off all sub-systems, including communication and gone into a deep sleep. While sleeping, the rover will use the available s ... more Next Mars Rover Sports A Set Of New Wheels Pasadena CA (JPL) Jul 02, 2010 NASA's next Mars rover, Curiosity, is sitting pretty on a set of spiffy new wheels that would be the envy of any car show on Earth. The wheels and a suspension system were added this week by spacecraft technicians and engineers. These new and important touches are a key step in assembling and testing the flight system in advance of a planned 2011 launch. Curiosity, centerpiece of NAS ... more |

Spirit Standing By At Troy Pasadena CA (JPL) Jun 29, 2010 Spirit remains silent at her location called "Troy" on the west side of Home Plate. No communication has been received from the rover since Sol 2210 (March 22, 2010). As stated previously, it is likely that Spirit has experienced a low-power fault and has turned off all sub-systems, including communication and gone into a deep sleep. While sleeping, the rover will use the available solar array energy to recharge her batteries. When the batteries recover to a sufficient state of charge, Spiri ... read more |
